Happy Little Vegemite, Sisters

Vegemite, invented in 1923 by food technologist, Dr. Cyril P. Callister, is somewhat of a National Treasure, and consumed by Australians at home and abroad. It is often playfully described as a "national food". We all grew up on it and take it with us when we travel.
The Vegemite Jingle gave rise to the Australian slang expression 'Happy Little Vegemite', (a happy person) in the 1980s.
This is the JINGLE to click on, and below are the words. Can you guess which happy little Vegemite sister is Madame.

We're hap-py lit-tle Veg-e-mites
As bright as bright can be.
We all en-joy our Ve-ge-mite
For break-fast, lunch, and tea.
Our mum-mies say we're grow-ing stron-ger
Eve-ry sin-gle week,
Be-cause we love our Ve-ge-mite -
We all a-dore our Ve-ge-mite -
It puts a rose in eve-ry cheek.

A very nice photograph of a happy group of people. Interesting narrative too.

The beautiful baby maybe? I always like to taste all sort of new things when i'm travelling but, i'm sorry to have to say that trying Vegemite in Australia has been a ...,let us say "strange", experience...I think you must be born in OZ to bear it!
Thank you for visiting my blog, have you seen Carnac on Google map?

M.Benatu I'm only going to say one more thing about you quiz: she hasn't changed a bit, the same lovely visage!

Hee Hee - Monica, you guessed it - I'm the blonde on the far right with the red ribbons. Thanks for your sweet comments.
Lynn, you picked my older sister, mercurial Karina, who is holding the youngest, giggling Amanda (who still giggles and has a wonderful sense of humour) while I'm holding onto beautiful Tanya who is our "earth mother", now a mother of 6 beautiful children. Karina and I were always dressed as twins until our teens. My mother and grandmother made most of our clothes. This is one of my favourite photos. I was 9 years old in this photo.
Dive - lots of Vitamins in vegemite. M.B. has one slice of toast with vegemite on it every day for breakfast; the other piece of toast is spread with plum jam.
Pretty Kittypuss Cat, loves vegemite on toast.

Thanks for playing!

Alice - there is a resemblance between Amanda and I, albeit that she is 8 years younger, now that we are adults. The other two are dark; we are fair.
It is possible that if you didn't like Vegemite, then perhaps it was spread too thick. The toast must be spread with butter first, before the vegemite. To be honest, I think it is the butter that I like, with just a very thin spread of Vegemite.

Monica, you are toooo clever, my good wife and I were still deciding when I 'pinched' a look at your reply/s... needless to say I was right and my good wife said second left. Would you believe, we have just arrived home and are enjoying a nice glass of red wine with fresh bread and vegemite... absolutely true.

Monica,
You win. Congratulations.
Monsieur le Président,
I would call that, Astral Projection. Fly to Adelaide when you can.
Lynn,
Sorry, you bombed, but Good Try. Merci en tout cas!
Alice,
Vegemite = Oz culture. We have a little less culture than France de temps en temps!
Hier, c'était La Trinité-sur-Mer peut-être? Je veux le savoir.
M. Dive,
You are an equal winner, cobber. You covered all bases!
Eddie,
Vos écureuils sont magnifique, Monsieur.
Herr Schaussengraben,
You will grow strong and healthy every single day, just keep eating Vegemite - and red wine.
You have a very good eye, (for girls) !!!

Sally,
I took some American visitors out for dinner recently.
I asked the waiter to bring some bread and Vegemite to the table for the Yanks. He brought it out on a silver platter and made a sort of reverent, ceremonial flourish when he placed it front of them, as if it was the usual thing. When they tasted it, their facial expressions screwed right up but we devoured ours like it was Christmas. They wanted to throw up, but it was too culturally challenging. What fun.

Rob, I have to admit I am good with faces, I´m very observing.

Mme.Benaut, that was actually easy, honestly I don´t think you changed much!

The madam mystery has been solved. Hurrah.
Promite and marmite are the poor substitues for vegiemite that should be banished. And tehy tatse awful.

Well Mme - I know which one is you!!!!!This is a favourite photograph too.
Vegemite - well - lovely stuff but true Mme - spread thinly and yes - crunchy fresh bread and lots of butter also. My grandson hates it but has promite - yuk.
Marmite - My friend from UK many years ago ensures that anyone travelling there must return with the largest jars possible.

I can handle Vegemite spread very thinly but can't say it's a favourite. BUT I ADORE THIS PIC AND THE VEGEMITE JINGLE!!!

Does Madame still wear the red ribbons? :>

Anonymous said...

No, no Terroni! Hee Hee! Can you seriously envision a 51 year old woman in plaits with red ribbons? I don't think so! (I confess that I can sometimes be seen with a ponytail though).

HI all - I can see my wife Karina ...[second from the left] & she is still very pretty...regards Derek
