Ooh that's not what i'd expect to see in Adelaide. Pretty and exotic but...somehow out of place do you think? Adds a different culture and interest though huh.
Hello Lynn, you must be online - we have quite a large Chinatown area and of course quite a large asian population - mostly Vietnamese but also many asian students who come to Adelaide to study - from Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia. We are situated very close to South East Asia, afterall. Consequently, there are many, many asian restaurants in Adelaide and just last night I had beef wok tossed with vegetables in black bean sauce with cashews and steamed rice for dinner at a restaurant called "Spices" - not in Chinatown but in East Rundle Street which will be the subject of another of M.B's posts soon. It is
Adelaide's equivalent of the Champs Elysees!! Oh, and M.B has already left for the office.
Indeed, there are some similarities with the one in San Francisco gate, although, the SF one is Green or a jade colour, is on Bush street (not named after the one in the white house) and is just a few yards away east from the French Consulate. You can see a picture of it on the link below. Facing the gate is Cafe de La Presse a favourite stop for some of tha French compatriots in San francisco. In it one can buy French Nerwspapers, Cigarettes, eat at the Cafe, or sit in the back of it and have more of a formal meal with waistaff etc.

Oh beautiful! Didn't picture it in Adelaide also, that's globalization I guess.
Are there food markets going in there? if so there must be lots of exotic and interesting things to try.
Mme Benaut, concerning your comment at Lynn's , we make such a mess as it is with all these bilingual folks, perhaps it's better off not adding portuguese to it! It's such a tricky language!
hmmm, Chinese culture is perhaps everywhere. Here in Calcutta,India also we have a China Town, where these kind of gates & chinese restaurants are there. Anyway, nice to know about your place.
very intriguing
I've been to the wonderful adelaide Central market (what a gem!) but didn't realise you could get there from Chinatown.
Nice gate, MB.
Ame will no doubt have something to say about this one.
We went through London's Chinatown last week. Itwas still festooned with lanterns and banners for the New Years celebrations.
I love the custom of a Chinese gate at the entrance to Chinatowns everywhere. This one is quite nice.
Thanks for your visit to Alexandria DP. While you envy my snow, I envy your sunshine, although I don't envy you your 100 degrees F!
Mme there's a new coffee break fiction at my Things UK blog which i feel may be just up your speech er i mean street. Also, just a tad of excitement in Cheltenham today....
shameless plug over. I expect you're still snoozing i still can't remember the time difference. Sorry i'll creep silently out again.... sssshh!
