Château-Gontier : Our Civic Réception
Next morning, bright and well-rested, Laurent had a little surprise in store for us.
We were off to the Mairie, (The Town Hall) to be received by the mayor's chief assistant, M. Jean-Marie Mulon, Directeur de la Culture, du Tourisme et de la Communication.
Also known as the Hôtel de Ville et de Pays, the town hall in the Place de la Republique has a history going back 1000 years, Laurent said.
We felt extremely honoured to have been shown this courtesy and felt as if we had been given the keys to the city.
In the main council chamber and and holding the place of honour, it was quite a thrill to come face to face with one of the prettiest little girls in all of France, - Marianne, the national emblem of the French Republic.
Prettiness and femininity are rife in this country ! Who would ever want to leave ?
You can see the front view of the Town Hall in yesterday's shots. And if you go to CHÂTEAU-GONTIER DAILY PHOTO ,you can see more of our exploits on Laurent's Blog. Just scroll down to 2, 3, and 4 September.
Thank you so much, Laurent and Valérie; we had a wonderful stay in your lovely city.
