À vitesse de croisière, 2

Jour 5.
Cruising, day 5. The construction of houseboats at Five-Miles.
Even though these boats were in the process of construction, we were permitted to look at their interiors.
When the work is complete, they will be most luxurious. On completion, the boats are rolled into the river, utilizing a small railway. One hopes that there will be sufficient water in the river to enjoy these beautiful "Houses !!"

That's some boat!
Boatbuilding seems a strange profession in such a drought-stricken land.
Unless they know something we don't … If you see them loading animals on board, two by two, start panicking.

This conjures up all kinds of Mark Twain. Somehow, I don't think he would have ever envisioned these boats, though.

Not enough true blue aussie men in shorts here for me to be completely satisfied, but I love boats so these two posts are very interesting to me.

Can't believe how low the Murray is. Will these boats end up cruising in mud ???

Just watched the "true blue" video. Ah! True blue indeed. Wonderful.

The addition of an Aborigene at the very end, almost as an afterthought, leaves a strange impression though....

Non ?

Men in shorts, where...? Oh. Nowhere. Uh.

Thanks for posting the interiors! Looks wonderful it seems a great way to live, as you say, if there's enough water to float upon. Can they be docked at sea or not?

I do worry about their height, nonetheless. I wouldn't want to be in it having the gales we're having here at the moment!
