Sera-t-il le jour final d'été ?

Will this be the last summery day ?

While the days are becoming longer and warmer in France and the blossoms are springing into life, here in Oz we are seeing shorter days and longer nights.

In any case, we will indeed be praying for rain.
In fact some are talking about cloud seeding after an absence of this method for many years.

South Australia must act decisively if it is to remain viable and double its population by 2027.

La Maison Jaune

With the Australian drought and the economic crisis affecting tourism so badly, many rental homes in tourist resorts are vacant.
Here at Goolwa near Adelaide, The Yellow House has not tipped it's tenants out; there is simply no water in the river.
So, there's not much activity to be enjoyed apart from walking around on the dry river beds or praying for rain.

Quelles inondations ?

What floods ?
There have been floods in Queensland, but unfortunately, the water will never reach South Australia.
People need a ladder 3 metres long, to climb down to their boat, here.

Not too far from Adelaide, lies Granite Island on the coast near Victor Harbor.
In Summer and in Autumn, visitors can swim in the tepid waters, catch fish from the rocks or simply watch the whales as they splash in Encounter Bay.

Today our wonderful French friend spread his wings to return to his, (and everyone's) beloved Paris.
Consequently, the house is quiet; it has no more French echos of laughter, and of song.
But, Edith Piaf's, "L'Homme à la Moto" will sound in my ears on Monday as Eric scoots off to his office.

Thank you Eric, we had a ball, or was it just the best celebration of the century ?

Une semaine de joie et de bonheur

This week has been one of great joy and fun.
My pleasure in visiting Paris has been rekindled with Eric's visit to Adelaide.
At the mouth of the River Murray, in Encounter Bay, 207 years ago, a Frenchman and an Englishman met. They were exploring and mapping the shores of "Terra Australis".
Today we reflected on that meeting and the fact that we were very nearly a French colony here in Australia.
In the photo, that chance meeting occurred just behind Eric's left shoulder and about 4 kilometres out to sea.

Un petit peu de Paris à Adelaïde

As Tuesday was so cloudy, our plan to show Eric the beach, was put on hold.
Instead, we stormed through the city centre in very light rain.
Today, we will see the dry Murray River and the Lower Lakes where the river meets the ocean at Encounter Bay.

Today, with the weather remaining warm and sunny in Adelaide, the French Envoy was shown Glenelg with its jetty and wide, white sandy beach.
Naturally, Eric was a little homesick when he saw the Glenelg tram painted in the French national colours of bleu, blanc, et rouge.
Maybe we'll have snails and frogs legs for dinner tonight?

Eric in Adelaide Day 2 continued.

Some of the wildlife in the hills would not accept the the food offered to them, whilst the furry and feathered ones were happy to accept.

Paris Daily Photo in Adelaide, day 2

Today the weary travellers sat back and examined the abundant wildlife of the Adelaide Hills.
This was made easy by the wonderful facilities of the Cleland Wildlife Conservation Park which overlooks the Adelaide Plains and The Gulf St. Vincent.
However, the gelati after all the hard work was most welcome.

Paris Daily Photo arrives in Adelaide

Adelaide Daily Photo a rescucité !

Today Eric, the catalyst for all our friends in the City Daily Photo Blogosphere, arrived in Adelaide.
He has worked so hard over the last four years to bring us a photo a day from his beautiful city that it is only just, that he takes the time to escape the cold of a Paris winter and see a little of the Land-Down-Under.

In the days to follow, you may see a little more of Eric.
