Dhao zhai, Bernard.
Today, let's speak Cantonese with Bernard.
The best way to enjoy eating ice cream , is to speak Cantonese at the same time. Bernard has a wonderful ice cream stall in the Adelaide central Market. If you say 'thank you' in any Chinese dialect, he'll smile, like Chinese love to do.
Dhao zhai, Bernard

I'd smile for an ice cream like that. Hope you're feeling bright today M. Benaut.

Merci beaucoup, Lynn,
Aujourd'hui je me sens beaucoup mieux, merci, mais je regrette, cependent, que nous ne sommes pas à Bali avec Michael, (l'enfant terrible !!)
Nous devons voir une photo de lui avec le coup de soleil.

Dammit!
I can't manage Cantonese, though I can embarrass myself in Mandarin, so "fei chang gan xie, Bernard".

Glad to have you back with us, Monsieur. And please let Mme know she should be able to comment on my blog at last.
Cheers!

Ripper, Dive,
Even though that sounds more like a Chinese river to me, I'll go along with you on this one. I will tell Bernard, (such an ancient Chinese name, n'est-ce pas ), and he will be pleased to the back collar-studs to have doting fans in the antipodes.
Thanks for your nice wishes. I have been following your superbly excellent series on Southwold. I believe you are worthy of a medal for your great presentation and your fabulous humour.
All visitors to ADP must pop in to view and absorb this brilliant chronicle.
Some might find that you have missed your true calling. I find that you are a man of multiple talents. There will be a bottle of your favourite Aussie wine arriving with us in late August. I await your choice, Monsieur!

Damn. I have been meaning to get Madame in the BLUE print for some time, now. A serious omission. Thanks, old son. I am sure that you will here from her, aussi vite que possible.

Hee hee. You are too kind, Monsieur.

Aussie wines have come a very long way since the days of Monty Python's glorious send-up of Chateau Rod Laver ("if the wine doesn't open the Sheila's legs, you can always use the bottle"), but I would leave the choice to one with more intimate knowledge than myself.

And does Bernard really have a little box of "Licked Sticks" on his counter?
Eww!
