Partout, des hommes français portent des maillots de bain bleu foncé

Palavas changed it's name in 1928 after it was "floated" as the the main town in its local commune (in 1850).

Perhaps, a little play-on-words and perhaps dead true.
That's history for you.

Thus, as the crow flies, (or the fly crows), Palavas-les-Flots est une station balnéaire située à environ 6 km à vol d'oiseau au sud du centre de Montpellier, au bord du golfe du Lion et de la mer Méditerranée.

France is so varied and beautiful, yet everywhere one looks, men wear navy swimming trunks, or so it seems from my photos. Can't say I noticed at the time !

Très bientôt vous aurez faim. Pensez juste aux POISSONS !

M. Benaut, vous devriez préciser pour vos éventuels lecteurs que le monsieur sur la photo du bas, ce n'est pas vous :-))

Goodness - M. Benaut - photographing near naked ladies on the beach. Mind you, more arresting than that; what's the chap on the beach doing with his hand? Dun dun dur.

That's just weird, Monsieur! Jesus overlooking the nudist beach.
And what is Mme pointing to? Or is she doing a hula dance?

Marie, j'avais pensé à ce temps, que chacun s'est rendu compte que je ne porte pas cette couleur de maillot de bain.
Pourrais-tu s'il te plaît leur dire ma couleur préférée ?

Lynn,

What sharp eyes you have my dear !

Not the sort of thing a bloke notices generally.

I was too busy interesting myself in the perceived amplitude of the astronomical and meteorological tidal movements of the Mediterranean Sea.

Did you know that, during spring, summer and autumn, there is a well-developed seasonal thermocline; south of the coast of Provence (from Marseille to Nice) and the surface water can exceed 25 °C during summer.

These are things that fill a bloke's mind when he is on a French beach and I am glad to have had a chance to set the record straight, here.

Dive,

Probably naked people.

I was paying attention to the Hydrography of Le golfe du Lion.

LOL M. Benaut...yeah, yeah...

By the way, what is/are tam-tam?

Thib said...

Lynn,
tam-tam are a sort of african drums... pretty noisy, particularly on a beach ;-(

Ah...all that warm sand and blue sky. Makes me yearn for summer time.

I noticed the guy immediately - looks suspicious to me!!!

What a great set of photos. Especially the sign that says, "tenue correcte"! Jesus on the beach is quite interesting as well. Why on earth...

Thib,
Thanks for the explication.
Nice to see you at Eric's dinner in Paris the other evening, although it must have been a freezing night ?

Maria,
I imagine that it's also freezing in Nebraska now.
These shots were taken at the beginning of September and I assure you, the water was perfect for swimming !

Jules,
Welcome back to blogville.
It's good you have these suspicions.
Just shows you are on the ball, so to speak !

Michael,
I must admit that a student of the french language would have one or two concepts running through his head before finally settling on the correct translation.
I sort-of like your initial thought on this one; it conjures up a funny sight, n'est-ce pas ?

Thanks Thib.

Mmmm, looks like I missed an interesting post here. So much for going away for a few days...

To my family, Palavas les Flots has always been the archetype of the bad taste beach and indeed your photos are in line with that.

Jesus on the cross at the beach is a first for me, I can't remember seeing that anywhere else. BTW was he wearing "une tenue correcte"?
